The Gift of Presence

Live for the moment, it is truly all you have!

We must learn to experience the full depths and richness of life by becoming fully emerged within the present moment. You have the freedom of choice in life to use your mind however you wish and to respond to life however you feel. People can easily become reactive to life’s experiences and too many people have tendencies to act on impulses, habits and fears. Responding to life like this will lead you astray and can cause someone to suffer and drift through life. We call it being ‘lost’.

Everything you say and do is up to you. Everything your mind thinks is your choice on where you put your attention. Right now you have the choice to direct your life in whatever direction you please. Now is the time to wake up, take a look around you and smile. Take a deep breath in through your nose. Exhale and open your eyes. Be grateful and accept your current circumstances in life.

“Begin doing what you want to do now, we are not living in eternity. We have only this moment, sparkling like a star in our hand and melting like a snowflake.” – Sir Francis Bacon

In this very moment you have great power to begin creating anything you want to happen. Being completely in the present moment is similar to having a blank canvas to create art. Use your mind as a paintbrush and paint what you want your masterpiece to become. Your actions will then be focused and directed towards something you truly want and you will enjoy every moment of it, even during the tough times. Being emerged in the moment can reduce stress and will help liberate you from your chattering mind.

“Men are not prisoners of fate, but only prisoners of their own minds.” – Franklin D. Roosevelt

The mind is a bad master but a good slave. When you become aware of your own thinking, you can begin to separate yourself from your thoughts and allow yourself more space to simply observe what is going on inside your head. When you have the ability to recognize your thoughts in moments throughout the day is when you can become more conscious of where your thoughts are directed. This simple yet difficult practice will empower and change your life!

“By living intensely in the moment rather than just expecting the next moment to arise. Ultimately, we learn how to dig up the fertilized soil of ‘the old’ in order to plant seeds of ‘the new’ so that cosmic heroism may perpetuate itself throughout, and perhaps even beyond, the human leitmotif.” – Alan Watts

When you begin experiencing life, you will ‘feel’ what is happening around you. You will hear the music more deeply, you will dance more sincerely. You will become more focused and clear thinking. Your genuine presence will positively affect everybody and everything around you. You will feel alive, joyful and peaceful with the moment. Remember, just like dance, becoming more present will take practice and time. Give it a try, it is waaay better than worrying 🙂

“Yesterday is history, Tomorrow is a mystery,Today is a gift, that is why it is called the Present.” – Bill Keane
