United in Hip Hop Kids Edition II

Earlier in May of this year, at our Spring Recital we’ve held a 1vs1 Kids Breaking Qualifiers determining 1 Judge and 1 Top 8 Competitor for the kids’ battle. BBoy Ricky (Mr. Ray Ray’s cousin) and BBoy Khan (winner of last year’s My First Battle) will be traveling to judge and to compete. Mr. Tommy was also asked to help mentor an All-Style’s Kid Competitor – BGirl Jelly Bean and he is looking forward to meet everyone.

Over this past weekend BBoys Tommy (School of Breaking), BBoy Chopz (Tricks and Blows), BBoy Ricky(Gee Fam) and BBoy Khan (Tricks and Blows) traveled to New Mexico to compete, mentor, and represent themselves, their crew and School of Breaking at the second annual United in Hip Hop Kids Edition II event. The event was organized and ran completely by kids with mentors behind them. The event featured several competitions including 1vs1 Adult All Styles, 1vs1 Kids Breaking, 1vs1 Dad and Kid Expo, 1vs1 Kids Popping, Cypher Adikts and Graffiti battles,

As we’ve arrived to NM, we made a quick stop at our friend’s house in Santa Fe. BBoy 3D welcomed us and allowed us to crash at his place. We quickly changed clothes and drove to Albuquerque for Cypher Adikts and to meet the event organizers, Kathleen aka BGirl MK and BBoy Nightmare at the new Dancing Turtle location, and to greet the Friday night’s host Jeskilz and Cypher Adikts. Cyphers got heated, but everyone was having a great time and showing good sport.

The following day, we geared up for the main event, “fueled-up” at a local Chick-File, and headed into the Warehouse 508. It was great to Texas, Arizona, Colorado, and New Mexico under one roof. BBoy Tommy was paired up with his mentee, a 10-yr old BGirl Jelly Bean, for the All-Style competitions as a judge. Jelly Bean also competed in the 1vs1 Kids Breaking battle and took 2nd place in the 12 and under category. BBoy Ricky Jr. (8yrs) took 1st place. BBoy Khan competed in 1vs1 Kids Breaking Ages 12-17 and lost in semi-finals to BGirl Jocey from Texas.

As far as the 1vs1 All Style, Lay Uh from Jukebox (Arizona) took the 1st place, battling her crew-mate Rae Rae in the finals!

If you have never been to New Mexico, the scene is definitely worth checking out. From battles to cyphers to dinners after the events, New Mexico caries its flavor! We wanted to say huge thanks to Kathleen, Nightmare, Carl, Amanda, Check-It and The Dancing Turtle, BBoy 3D, Cypher Adikts, and many more for their hospitality and a great weekend!
